Weasel coffee in Hanoi Vietnam, if you're looking for "coffee beans that have been carefully selected and digested by a weasel

if you're looking for "coffee beans that have been carefully selected and digested by a weasel, then used to make coffee" then you'll never find them on earth.

The story about those weasels digest coffee was made up (by sellers I guess). It's not true.

How many weasel they need to "produce" enough coffee to sell? The number may equal Hanoi population.

It's so funny that many Vietnamese believe in such a story like that.

I'll leave the real story for your search. Take a tip to Tay Nguyen plateau ;) by Virezo - newhanoian

BacDavid - newhanoian: You'll find coffee grinders on Hang Buom Street in the old quarter. On Le van Hieu Street, off Pho Hue, near the Cho Hom market, Mai's caters to an upscale clientele.

Nybbler - newhanoian:
Animals actually eat the whole bean cherries but only digest the fruity stuff and so the bean itself goes out one way or the other. But the stuff you can normally buy is made differently. Nguyen obviously found the enzyme which pre-processes the bean and applies that on the beans so allegedly it tastes the same. I always buy at "Tour Cafe" in Hang Buom. "Weazel #1" costs 620.000/Kilo (easily bargained down to 600K and a free coffee maker (be sure to get one with the screw-on sieve) and a free drink). Quite a lot but the taste is so awesome! Be aware as the beans are complete beans. Not all grinders can handle that well. Normally you get half beans. I still feel being ripped off (it's pricey, they give you free goodies, they are very friendly (though it really feels genuine)). One girl talks English, with the others I had to try my Vietnamese. Buy a French bun 2 houses down the road and have it with a coffee here. A great break from the hectic.

Tctaft - newhanoian:  Hmmm .... I don't think those have been coffee beans that you have been enjoying. If they've been through a weasel, then they ain't beans my friend. You've been had. Rabbit beans are good too. Maybe a little larger, not quite as firm but equally as enjoyable (i'm sure) as weasel beans. Vegetarians love them....OK. I was so intriqued by the weasel poop that I went out and got some today. It smells great and tastes good too. I just hope that I don't grow a sleak coat and end up being skinned and turned into a smart little handbag or collar. If you want to find some of this weasel excrement, get on Ta Hien, go to the beer corner, turn left, follow the road around the bend and you'll find a couple of weasel purveyors on your left, about 50 metres along. The cost was about 120,000 vnd for 1/2 a kilo. She will try to sell you Java, Mocha, Arabica and other such flavours as well. But we know there's nothing like the weasel. Accept no substitutes.

Grant - newhanoian: that wasn't Cafe a la Con Chon you bought. The actual stuff is in the range of $US300 - 400 a kilo. As you can imagine, there's not a great deal of it produced. You can buy Cafe Chon (can't type the accents here) but it hasn't anything to do with Civet Cats. Just a name of a coffee brand where Chon doesn't mean the animal. The real stuff is damn cool and sort of sweet......no ill side effects apart from the occasional lapse into tourettes....
