Man Wanted For Brutal Stabbing Of Wife Surrenders To police

A Thai man wanted for the stabbing to death of his wife has surrendered to the authorities. He blames his actions on alcohol and a fit of rage when his wife took a knife and held it to her throat

Pattaya, 29th December 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 15.00 Police Major Somnek Janged of the Banglamung Police Station, together with Police Lieutenant General Bramod Ngambarit and Police Captain Siribancha Kobjai, announced the capture of Mr. Suchaat Chaemchoi (37), who was wanted for the murder of his wife, Mrs Wantanna, on the evening of December 28th near their townhouse at 24/4 Soi Ruamsuk 6, Moo3 Nongbure, Banglamung. The murder weapon, a medium length kitchen knife, was also retrieved.

Police said Mr. Suchaat had surrendered himself to the poilce and, in tears, had explained his version of the events. He said that he had merely asked his wife, who was holding their child and drinking alcohol with their friends by a pavillion next to their house, to come inside and have dinner. He asked her repeatedly, however she refused and a huge row broke out. Mrs.Wantanna then ran to get a knife and held it against her own throat, which then led to a physical fight. Mr Suchaat managed to get the knife and in the ensuing struggle he slashed her throat and stabbed her once in the head and the chest until she fell motionless to the ground, drowning in her own blood.

Mr. Suchaat furthermore confessed that after the incident he hid at a tapioca farm, about 500m away from the crime scene, and slept there. The next morning he returned to his village and called the police to come and pick him up. He said he decided to turn himself in out of remorse and pity for his 7-month-old baby, who is now a foster child, with no mother and a father in prison. Who is going to look after the baby remains in question.

Mr. Suchaat blamed is actions on alcohol and an outburst of temper. However, the police have deemed the killing an intentional murder, and Mr. Suchaat remains in custody awaiting further judicial proceedings.		  A Thai man wanted for the stabbing to death of his wife has surrendered to the authorities.
