The Hanoi Times - In the final weeks before New Year 2010 and the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, many travel agencies have prepared tours emphasizing cultural events and landscapes of the North.
With an aim to give an insight into the culture, history and scenery of Hanoi, Hanoitourist is offering day tours to Van Phuc Silk Village, Phu Vinh Bamboo Weaving Village, Tram Gian Pagoda, Do Temple, Phat Tich Pagoda, Dong Ho Painting Village, Bat Trang Pottery Village and a tour around Hanoi, Trang An and Hoa Lu. Prices are between VND295,000 and VND500,000 per person.
From the southern and central regions, there are longer tours to Hanoi, Do Temple, Ha Long Bay, Tuan Chau Island, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Tam Coc Grotto, Co Loa Imperial City and Hung Temple.
For international tourists, Hanoitourist is offering ten different tours that cover Hanoi and its craft villages and old streets, religious relics, Ninh Binh Province, Hanoi Bay and the Red River.
Saigontourist is celebrating the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi with a three-day tour called Thousand Year Way of Thang Long at VND2.1 million, a five-day tour called Back to the Root at VND3 million, a four-day tour called Hoa Lu Ancient Capital-Trang An at VND4.2 million, a four-day tour called Attractive Cat Ba-Surprised Halong Bay at VND4.2 million, a four-day tour called Hanoi Past and Present at VND3.1 million and a seven-day tour called Impressive Sapa-Mysterious Halong Bay at VND4.7 million.
All tours include not only scenery and ancient historical relics but also fun folk games and lessons to make ceramics and bamboo and brocade crafts. Thang Long gastronomy in the heart of people in southern Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Binh Quoc tourism village will hold an event to introduce the special dishes of Thang Long – Hanoi to local people and tourists.
The festival will present Hanoi in the past and present, specifically its cultural influence in festivals and gastronomy in northern Vietnam.
In addition, there will be photo, painting, book exhibitions, and cooking presentations of Hanoian gatronomy.
The event is among many welcoming activities of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi and is being held from December 11th to 13th at Van Thanh tourism site. Source: Hanoimoi Newspaper
Library for 1,000 years of Thang Long culture
A project to build a library to store and preserve one thousand years of Thang Long culture has been built by Ha Noi Publishing House, said its director, Nguyen Khac Oanh.

The library will store rare books, manuscripts and documents about Thang Long- Ha Noi, as well as act as a depository for long-term research on Hanoi’s history.
The Ha Noi Publishing House carried out a campaign to collect rare books and research about Thang Long culture. In addition, they also carried out a successful search in foreign countries.
By the end of 2008, over 9,000 documents and pictures about Thang Long- Ha Noi which are kept in Holland and UK, have been translated into Vietnamese.
All Hanoians, Vietnamese people, overseas Vietnamese, businesses and organizations, and international friends can participate in the campaign to collect and research documents about Thang Long- Ha Noi.
The valuable works will first be exhibited and then published to give an accurate profile of Thang Long’s history.
Thang Long, the ancient name for Hanoi, has a rich history with much still being learnt.
The citadel of Thang Long discovered five years ago, by construction workers laying the foundations of a new National Assembly building. They had accidentally discovered one of the largest and most spectacular archaeological finds in Vietnam’s history – foundations of ancient royal palaces, including one structure 1,000 square meters in size, a drainage system, wells and traces of an ancient river and lake. Events to mark 1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi announced
VietNamNet Bridge - On January 21st, the Hanoi City Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Motherland Front Committtee held a meeting with leaders from other provinces and cities announce the celebrations to mark a 1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi.
The 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi will be an important event for the capital and the country. The Politburo in the 8th tenure had Instruction No 32-CT/TU on the event.
Hanoi’s plan to organize the event is aimed at expressing gratefulness to ancestors who made great contribution to national construction and defence, and passing this historical tradition on to the masses, especially young people.
The plan to welcome 1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi includes a drive to create literature and arts, build outstanding works, hold events according to the count-down clock from 2008 and a hold great festival in October 2010.
